John Cunningham, a 38-year-old electrical contractor, came to the United States with a 90 day visa. He never left. Now. 15 years later, he is back in Ireland after being nailed as an illegal alien. A couple of months ago, Cunningham went on television to talk about his status as an illegal alien. Evidently no one told him that a democrat was in the White House and that he could be held accountable for his crime.
Advocates of the Irish community in Massachusetts, home to an estimated 12,000 of the nation’s 50,000 Irish living in the U.S. illegally, complained the punishment overlooked Cunningham’s positive contributions.
Cunningham had been a past chairman of the local Gaelic Athletic Association, which organized traditional Irish sports competitions.
‘John is so well-known and so well-liked. If John Cunningham is not safe, no one is safe’
Cunningham was sued for fraud when he deposited a home owner’s check but failed to do the work he was paid for. Cunningham never appeared in court. In my opinion, we don’t need Cunningham here because there are Americans willing to be an unscrupulous contractor.
Shawn Neudauer, ICE’s Public Affairs Officer told the Irish Independent Cunningham’s arrest had nothing to do with the Trump Administration.
‘His significant overstay was cause and reason enough. Someone who overstays a visitor visa is flagrantly violating the granted benefit,’ spokesman Khaalid Walls said.
Cunningham was subject to mandatory detention and wasn’t entitled to a hearing under the terms of the visa.
Neudauer was wrong. It had very much to do with President Trump. Under Obama, the Illegal Alien in Chief , illegal aliens even those committing crimes were allowed to stay here but under Trump people have to obey the law or leave.
