President Trump will reveal his choice for U.S. Supreme Court justice on Tuesday night at 8 p.m. EST.
On Twitter Monday, the president announced that his decision — one of the most anticipated of his administration — will come two days earlier than expected. He was supposed to announce his pick on Thursday night.
“I have made my decision on who I will nominate for The United States Supreme Court,” Trump tweeted. “It will be announced live on Tuesday at 8:00 P.M. (W.H.)”
After Justice Antonin Scalia died in February last year, President Barack Obama nominated Merrick Garland, but his nomination was blocked by Republicans, leaving a vacancy in the ninth seat on the court.
“I think in my mind I know who it is,” Trump recently said of his pick. “I think you’re going to be very, very excited. I put out the list of 20, all highly responsible and highly talented, very talented judges. Replacing somebody that was somebody I had great respect for as an intellect, Justice Scalia.”
Many people would like to see President Trump’s former campaign rival, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), be a Supreme Court nominee. Who would you like to see on the bench?
