Congressional Democrats Remain Seated As Fallen Navy SEAL’s Wife Is Honored

A video showing leading Democrats refusing to stand or applaud while President Donald Trump acknowledged Carryn Owens, the widow of fallen Navy SEAL, has poured an outrage among the public. During Trump’s first speech to Congress, he paused to honor Mrs. Owen, reports IJ Review. Her SEAL husband is the first casualty of Trump administration. He died during an assault in Yemen on January 29.

In his speech, President Trump acknowledged the SEAL’s heroism “We are blessed to be joined tonight by Carryn Owens, the widow of a U.S. Navy special operator, Senior Chief William ‘Ryan’ Owens”, Trump said. “Ryan died as he lived: a warrior, and a hero — battling against terrorism and securing our nation.”

Trump’s approval rating could get a huge bump following the generally well-received speech.

During the touching tribute comments, Mrs. Owens broke down in tears,  while the entire room gave her multiple rounds of standing ovation to honor her late husband’s sacrifice.  However, a number of top Democrats can be seen refusing to stand and applaud.

Among those who refused to stand or applaud for the fallen SEAL are senators, Bernie Sanders, Al Franken and Representatives Keith Ellison and Nancy Pelosi.

On social media, people have been airing different opinions concerning the incident.  Some feel that by refusing to support anything that Trump says or does, Democrats are being too obstinate.

One user wrote on Conservative Daily’s page, “No matter your party politics that you have with any President you stand up and honor the fallen. It just shows you the Democrats haven’t figured out why they lost. Here’s a clue…………… The Russians had nothing to do with it.”

It should be noted that sources claiming top democrats refused to stand and honor the fallen SEAL are false. According to Snopes, however, the Democrats mentioned did in fact stand and applaud the fallen hero’s widow, but not all stood the entire time during each round of standing ovations.
