When a sea of former President Donald Trump supporters descended on Texas on Saturday, it did more than demonstrate that the 45th president still has a pull on voters that Vice President Joe Biden can only dream about.
It demonstrated how desperate Trump opponents are to artificially suppress the crowds eager to greet him when he arrives in town.
However, an attempt by Trump’s vocally nasty niece to dampen turnout did not go as planned — in fact, it backfired on her.

Mary Trump, the daughter of Donald Trump’s deceased brother, Fred, attempted to launch a social media campaign in the run-up to the Trump rally at Waco Regional Airport in Waco by fraudulently reserving space.

“If we book the 50,000+ venue, we can make sure most of the seats are empty when the traitor takes the stage,” Mary Trump wrote in a Twitter post on Thursday.

Does it appear to be empty?
It’s unclear where Mary Trump got the 50,000 figure, but organizers had expected about 15,000 people to show up, according to KWTX-TV in Waco on Thursday. Because that happened on the same day as Mary Trump’s tweet, it’s clear it didn’t have the desired effect.
A police officer on the scene told the Waco Tribune-Herald on Saturday that figure sounded about right.

The parking lots opened at 8 a.m., with airport gates opening at noon, but the crowd began forming much earlier, according to the Tribune-Herald, which noted that “age and ethnic diversity were on display at the rally.”
“A makeshift parking site manifested itself well away from the staging area at Waco Regional Airport,” the Tribune-Herald reported.
“Hundreds of vehicles broke ranks with the bumper-to-bumper traffic leading directly to the venue, where designated parking areas had been marked off, and created an ad hoc parking lot of their own near China Spring Road and Uncle Worm’s Texas Cuisine restaurant.”

That appears to be a far cry from the sparsely attended rallies staged by the Biden campaign during its lean 2020 campaign, which allegedly resulted in 80 million Americans voting for the Democratic ticket.
“The crowd grew throughout the afternoon, some attendees hoofing it from that ad hoc parking lot to Waco Regional Airport,” the Tribune-Herald reported.
“Upon arrival, guests would join lines that moved slowly, shuffling attendees from one stage of entry to another. A Waco police officer, who said he could not identify himself because he was not an authorized spokesperson, said the event was ‘very orderly: no protesters, no arguments, no fights.’”
“Very orderly, not protesters, no arguments, not fights.” Does that sound like a gathering of the kind of “domestic terrorists” that Biden, the Democratic Party, and the establishment media pretend to make up the real opposition to the Biden administration?

It doesn’t, because that description is as fictitious as the ghost attendees Mary Trump attempted to conjure up to derail her uncle’s appearance in Texas on Saturday.

Her idea was a play on a social media maneuver the left aimed at Trump for his June 2020 rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma — a maneuver that received more praise in the establishment media than it did from those who actually witnessed the rally.
And here’s the thing: the more ridiculous plots like Mary Trump’s emerge, the more it demonstrates that the genuine enthusiasm for the conservative cause — and the establishment’s horror of it — is as real as the prosthetics at a “drag queen story hour.”
And the bigger they fail, as Mary Trump did, the more attention they draw to the former president’s enduring popularity.
This is not the first time Mary Trump, 57, has attempted to harm her uncle. “Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man,” her book criticizing Donald Trump, has made her money through sales to liberals (how many actually read it versus signaling their virtue with the purchase is an interesting question), but it hasn’t changed the needs of American politics.
She is always willing to give a hostile interview to a mainstream media outlet in order to provide soundbites or quotes to use against Donald Trump.
In short, her public positions are as predictable as the harridans on “The View,” but without the charm.
The presidential election is still over a year and a half away. On the Democratic side, President Joe Biden has yet to make his re-election announcement official, though all signs point to him doing so.
With Democratic leadership otherwise in disarray, there’s a lot of potential for chaos, especially since the party’s putative standard bearer is a perpetually shaky, cognitively dubious octagenarian.
The Republican field is far from settled, with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis famously remaining on the sidelines and only Trump, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, and former business executive Vivek Ramaswamy having declared.
But, regardless of how the future unfolds, if the left believes it can destroy Donald Trump with the kind of dirty tricks his not-so-loving niece attempted on Saturday, the flood of supporters proved otherwise.
Whether the left likes it or not, 2024 will be a game-changer.
