John Sylvester Young, a groomsman at a wedding, is allegedly being charged with statutory sexual assault and corruption of minors for having sex with a 15-year-old in September 2016. Young was paired off with the teen bridesmaid and the two continued to spend time together during the reception.
It was during the wedding’s reception that Young offered the girl alcoholic drinks, kissed her and touched her.
Members of the wedding party spent the night of the ceremony at a hotel in Green Tree and around 4 a.m. the victim went to Young’s hotel room, where they had sex.
A relative of the 15-year-old, who also attended the fall wedding, approached Young in October and he admitted to spending the night with the bridesmaid. Young then later confessed to police that the teen sent him nude pictures through Snapchat at his request.
In November, the girl was diagnosed with a sexually transmitted disease and told police she had not been sexually active with anyone aside from Young, according to the newspaper.
Charges were filed against Young in January and he was recently sentenced to 11 to 23 months in jail, which will be followed by five years of probation.
He’s also required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and is not allowed to contact the victim.
