In the wake of the most recent release of “Twitter Files,” which implicates the social media site of “shadowbanning” its conservative users, Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, has pledged to implement transparency reforms.
From users who were deemed politically problematic by the platform’s censors, the files were then implicated by Twitter in the sophisticated suppression of content.
In light of the files, the most recent of which was published by journalist Bari Weiss on Thursday, Musk is promising to launch a platform feature that will allow Twitter users to see whether they are shadowbanned on the service.

Conservative influencers like Charlie Kirk and Dan Bongino were given platform tools to stop their content from spreading, according to photo evidence of internal Twitter software.
Bongino’s account was hit with a “search blacklist,” while Kirk was capped with a “Do Not Amplify” tool by Twitter.

It can even allow employees to view users’ direct messages, as Twitter censorship tools were so invasive.

The platform that reportedly implements shadowbans on users, including as a result of their political orientation, however, has been previously denied by Twitter executives. In testimony to Congress in 2018, former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey asserted that the service did not “shadowban anyone based on political ideology.”

After the Twitter Files were made public on Thursday night, Musk claimed in a tweet that the company’s representatives had lied about their use of shadowbanning.

Weiss claims that Twitter operatives renamed the shadowbanning strategies as “visibility filtering.”
The platform is still using shadowbanning technology, according to Musk’s tweet regarding the planned transparency software. However, it still unclear when will be made available about the tool that can verify a Twitter user’s shadowban status.
