Gretchen Krohnfeldt, 47, was suspended from her teaching job at Drake Middle School in Jefferson County, Colorado, after it was learned that she was having an affair with a student under the age of sixteen. According to CBS Denver, her temporary dismissal came after police were notified of an inappropriate relationship she allegedly had with a male student while he attended the middle school.
The suspected physical encounters were reported to have occurred at Krohnfeldt’s home in Arvada, Colorado — located about four miles from the school.
Hollywood Life noted that she began teaching in the district in 1993 and leaves behind three children and a husband.
Despite her untimely death, police will reportedly continue to investigate the allegations. According to ABC 7 Denver, Jefferson County Public Schools spokesperson Diana Wilson said in a statement:
We will continue to investigate this matter and coordinate our efforts with law enforcement. This investigation is in its infancy and the known facts are very limited. Our main focus is supporting our staff and students that have been deeply impacted by this tragedy.
