“I could not explain the feeling but I was sure it was some insect. There was a tingling, crawling sensation. Whenever it moved, it gave me a burning sensation in my eyes. CHENNAI, India (RNN) – Doctors got the shock of their lives after a woman said something was bugging her last week.
A woman rushed to a clinic after she felt something go up her nose in the middle of the night, the New Indian Express reported.
The woman, Selvi, a domestic worker, was referred to the Government Stanley Medical College Hospital, where a nasal endoscopy revealed that a cockroach had traveled inside her skull, between her eyes.
“I could not explain the feeling but I was sure it was some insect. There was a tingling, crawling sensation. Whenever it moved, it gave me a burning sensation in my eyes. I spent the entire night in discomfort, sitting up and waiting for dawn to go to Stanley hospital after getting the reference of a doctor from my employer,” she said.
Dr. M.N. Shankar said it was the first time he’d removed a live cockroach from a woman’s head in his three decades of practice.
The doctors faced difficulties removing the critter because of its locatiion in the woman’s head. It took 45 minutes for doctors to pull out the cockroach using clamps and suction.
“I had to first drag it to a place from where I could pull it out,” Shankar said.
The doctor said that if the roach had remained in the woman’s head, it eventually would have died there, putting the woman at risk for infection.
