The suspect, 40-year-old BLM supporter and sporadic transgender, Kimbrady Carriker, was apprehended after allegedly shooting and killing five people on Monday.
A gunman wearing a bulletproof vest and armed with a rifle and a handgun entered the Kingsessing area of Philadelphia on Monday night and started shooting, killing five individuals and wounding two children, ages 2 and 13.
Ralph Moralis, 59, Joseph Wamah Jr., 31, Dymir Stanton, 29, Lashyd Merritt, 22, and Daujan Brown, 15, were the five fatalities.
Police cornered and captured the shooter, putting him into custody, around ten minutes after the shooting rampage started.
BLM supporter Kimbrady Carriker, who lives only a few blocks from the scene of the shooting, was named as the suspect the next day.
Carriker is a fervent supporter of BLM; she writes about them on Facebook and likes the BLM page for Philadelphia.
In one Facebook post about workers going on strike in support of BLM, Carriker, a “top fan” of the page, commented, “Great! Black lives matter today; there will be jobs available. Equal opportunity finally. Just tell us where your [sic] quitting so we can send someone over.”
Carriker was also reportedly a computer engineer who had an interest in firearms.
In one Facebook post, Carriker was holding a pistol and wrote, “Wherefore art thou opposition so I may slide upon thine block and runneth down on thee.”
Another of Carriker’s posts was a map that listed historic “black massacres” in the U.S., writing, “We kept the receipts.”
In May 2020, Carriker wrote on Facebook beside a video of a burning police car, “I was there; where were you? #we matter.”
Carriker shared a photo of himself online in March 2022 looking like a lady while sporting a bra, earrings, and gold bracelets.
An old roommate of Carriker’s, 49-year-old Tina Rosette, spoke to The Philadelphia Inquirer about the suspect, expressing shock at his alleged involvement in the shooting.
“I didn’t even know he had a gun,” she said.
However, Tina’s daughter, Cianni, was not surprised about Carriker owning firearms, saying that he was “trying to get [her] comfortable around guns.”
