Can You See Why People Are Freaking Out About This Picture Of Sasha Obama? (Photo)

On the 16th birthday of Former President Barack Obama’s daughter a stunning discovery was revealed.

Sasha Obama celebrated her 16th birthday on Saturday, and people shared photos of her with mom and dad, Michelle and Barack Obama, that showed just how beautifully she has matured over the years.

During Barack Obama’s presidency and even afterward, we all felt like we knew the Obama family, even if it was just through their cute interviews and vacation photos. So it’s shaken us to our core to learn that all this time we haven’t even known Sasha Obama’s real name.

On Sunday, popular Twitter user Ashley Ford, a senior features writer at Refinery 29, dropped a bombshell about Obama that many admittedly did not know: Her real first name is actually NATASHA.

It turns out Sasha really is a nickname for Natasha, The Huffington Post reports. This has been out there for a while, but we just haven’t been paying attention. When she took a job at Martha’s Vineyard last summer, The New York Daily News reported that she was “going by her full name Natasha (yes, that’s her real name) while on the job.” Her Infoplease page reads, “Her formal name is Natasha, but she is most often called by her nickname, Sasha.” And she’s listed under the Wikipedia page for the name Natasha.

Sasha Obama, like a lot of 15-year-olds (at that time), is spending part of her summer break working.

She work at Nancy’s seafood restaurant on Martha’s Vineyard accompanied by a half-dozen Secret Service agents. The 350-seat restaurant is a go-to spot for the Obamas during their annual getaway to the Vineyard. The Obamas are reportedly friends with the owner.

“We were wondering why there were six people helping this girl,” a waiter at the restaurant in Oak Bluffs told the Boston Herald, “but then we found out who it was.”

Adding a layer of confusion: Sasha, who’s grown up in the White House for the past eight years, is going by her full name Natasha (yes, that’s her real name) while on the job.

Ford’s tweet was greeted with what appears to be genuine surprise, with “shock” and “omg” being common reactions. But there was also a sprinkling of sarcasm, such as the person who wrote: “I demand congressional investigations into Name-Gate.”

Another commenter, who was either being sarcastic or is just easily baffled, wrote: “I don’t even know what to think.”
