President Trump announced at his press conference today that the United States is terminating its relationship with the World Health Organization (WHO). He cited the WHO’s submission to China and its failure to reform following the mishandling of the coronavirus pandemic.
Yesssssss!
“Because they have failed to make the requested and greatly needed reforms, we will BE today terminating our relationship with the World Health Organization and redirecting those funds to other worldwide and deserving urgent global public health needs.”
“China has total control over the world health organization, despite only paying $40 million per year compared to what the United States has been paying, which is approximately $450 million a year,” Trump continued. “We have detailed the reforms that it must make and engage with them directly, but they have refused to act.”
So, the WHO has lost its greatest source of funding. Now the United States, being the biggest funder, should not have meant that we controlled the WHO (although I’m not entirely opposed to that). But it should have at least meant that the WHO would act in the interest of WORLD HEALTH rather than caterining to any one nation (cough, China!).
For crying out loud, if they had just acted as they are named, there would not be a problem. Instead, they acted like the China Health Organization (CHO).
