Model Faces Uncertainty Following Acid Attack

Resham Khan has launched her own private war against Muslim fundamentalists favorite punishment, acid attacks. They believe it is Mohammad’s will that those who don’t follow the Koran, be violently punished and what better way than by having acid thrown in their faces. So Ms. Khan has launched her own plan designed to curtail their ability to buy the acid used in the attacks.

Ms. Khan, was an aspiring model, until a couple of weeks ago, when she became a victim of a common Muslim practice. Now she has turned her attention to the perpetrators of such attacks and has written about her “unbearable pain” as she “patiently waits for the return of her face,” after she was left with severe acid burns.

She has also launched an online campaign to change the law allowing the purchase of corrosive substances, which are used in such attacks. At last count, that campaign has gathered more than 350,000 signatures after images of Resham’s injuries went viral. She has also created a fundraising page for both herself and her 37 year-old cousin, Jameel Muhktar, who was also injured in the attack and suffered “life-changing” burns. That page has thus far received more than £55,000 destined to help with the pairs medical costs.

Resham wrote: “My plans are in pieces; my pain is unbearable, and I write this letter in hospital whilst I patiently wait for the return of my face. Currently, I have two main priorities: to make a full recovery and to make sure no one ever goes through the living nightmare I have endured. I refuse to allow the country I grew up in to simply get used to corrosive substance attacks. The fear is real. The crime is real. I am writing this letter with hope. I can’t dwell on the past but what I can do is help build a better future, one without attacks like these.”

Meanwhile, John Tomlin, 24, of Canning Town in East London, is accused of carrying out the attacks, appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday to face charges for two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent. Tomlin was ordered to be remanded in custody and his next court appearance was set for August 8th at the Snaresbrook Crown Court. Police say Tomlin turned himself in to officers on Sunday. No reason has been given for the attack.

Official police reports say, Resham and her cousin Jameel were allegedly doused in acid while sitting in their car in Beckton, east London, on June 21st. Both victims were left with severe burns following the attack. The incident occurred while the pair were out celebrating Resham’s 21st birthday. Resham, had just returned from a year in Cyprus as an exchange student.

Writing on Twitter, she said: “I saw my clothes burn away in front of me. We stripped off in the middle of the road, running around screaming and begging for water.” Resham went on to tell how she was left in “excruciating pain” after suffering burns to her face and body

In addition to her injuries, Resham’s cousin Jameel, suffered such severe burns, he had to be placed in a medical comma to control the pain and has already undergone one operation.
