A Sex Offender Tried To Roll Up On A Female Jogger And Instantly Regretted It…

Kelly Herron’s story starts in a familiar way: It was just a normal run.

She was in training for her first marathon in March 2017, and it was her first double-digit run, a 10-mile beach loop on a cold, drizzly day in Seattle. “I had been dreading my run and putting it off,” Kelly remembered. Around 1 p.m., it was as warm as it was going to get. She bundled up and took off.

Kelly was 4 miles into a 10-mile long run in Golden Gardens Park when she had to use the restroom. That’s where she was attacked.

Fortunately, Kelly had recently attended a self-defense class. She had worked with the instructor for about three weeks before the sex offender tried to make her his latest victim. She said that she managed to use the skills she learned in the self-defense class to fight off Steiner and prevent him from raping her.

“I stopped to use the restroom and was assaulted by a man hiding in a stall…” she wrote on Instagram. “I fought for my life screaming (“Not today, M**F**er!”), clawing his face, punching back, and desperately trying to escape his grip—never giving up.”

After a terrifying struggle, she fended off the attacker, and the GPS trail her fitness tracker recorded shows the true extent of her ordeal.

The assailant, a registered sex offender, was hit by an unexpected turn of events when Kelly overpowered him and even managed to lock him inside a stall until police arrived. “Not today, motherf***er,” she screamed at him, according to ABC News. Kelly had taken a self-defense class only a few weeks before the incident, and “utilized all of it.”

“All those little things that I learned in my life … how to punch and everything came back to me,” she told ABC. “I started to feel like I was going to lose consciousness … but I got another surge of adrenaline and I reached for the door and was able to get out.”

Kelly described the experience in a harrowing Instagram post, in which she also shared the movements her fitness tracker traced using GPS during the fight. “My face is stitched, my body is bruised, but my spirit is intact,” she wrote in the same post.

This creep picked the wrong jogger to mess with, and we’re glad to see that Kelly walked away more alive than ever.
