President Joe Biden’s administration keeps children away from the president for obvious reasons. They attempt to keep the press at bay — or at least friendly — for a variety of reasons.
On Thursday, though, Biden couldn’t avoid being among children or the media since the White House was hosting a Take Your Child to Work Day event.
Biden praised the Secret Service for bringing him out to the South Lawn at the start of his speech, which should tell you everything you need to know about the power dynamics at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

So, during his speech, he was asked about having to leave the event. His response was telling.
“And by the way, the one thing I thought when I got to be president, I’d get to give orders,” Biden said. “But I take more orders than I ever did.”

Now, this was in immediate response to a child who said, “Mr. President, I heard you had to get back to the Oval Office.”
“You’re right, babe,” Biden said. “What’s your name?”
“Kathleen,” she said.
“Kathleen, what a beautiful name,” the president said. “Kathleen is reminding me I’ve got to get back to the office. If I don’t go, they’re going to get the Secret Service working on me, so I’m going to be in trouble.”
I’m not sure if Kathleen was referring to the event’s conclusion — it would be strange for a toddler to know that — but it was. And the moment was perfect: we had just witnessed what Biden devotees probably refer to as “That Moment.”
When “That Moment” arrives, you know it: when Space Cadet Biden, who isn’t necessarily in near-Earth orbit psychologically, finally loses the gravitational pull of reality and drifts off into the darkness of inchoate, incoherent responses.
And “That Moment” occurred when he was asked to name his favorite movie.
“My favorite movie was the new movie that was about that guy who flies jet planes,” the president responded. “You know who I’m talking about?”
Of course, this brought silence to everyone.

Fortunately for Biden, a child chimed in with “Top Gun,” and another kid said, “Oh, yeah, ‘Top Gun: Maverick.’”
The president then said, “Did you see — did you see ‘Top Gun: Maverick’? That’s been my favorite movie I’ve seen this year.”

Biden’s comment that he takes more instructions than he offers confirms what many of us assume — and the answer before that seemed to imply it was for the same reason we suspected. The engine may be barely running, but the so-called leader of the free world may not be behind the wheel.
Consider that this occurred just one day after cameras captured a card containing a reporter’s image, name (including the phonetic pronunciation of her last name), and question on it:

What’s amusing is that, despite the phonetic pronunciation, Biden didn’t even try Courtney Subramanian’s last name when he summoned her, instead addressing her as “Courtney Los Angeles Times.” I suppose we should be grateful that he hasn’t forgotten how to say “Courtney.”

A president who needs to be reminded of these fundamental things is, by definition, a leader who accepts instructions more than he delivers them — or is easily swayed.
He keeps himself mostly concealed from the public, surrounds himself with his inner circle, and pushes policies far to the left of where he was in the Senate or as vice president during Barack Obama’s presidency.
Why? Because to be charitable with one’s language, those policies were crafted for him by those in his administration.
Not that he ever has to answer for them, because we only hear him answer questions when they are yelled at him on the White House lawn.
Maybe every day at the White House should be Bring Your Child to Work Day. At the very least, we’d receive some answers — and the president would finally learn the title of his favorite picture, “the new movie about that guy who flies jet planes.”
