A 7-year-old second-grader in Sacramento, California is being called a hero after he rescued a toddler from the bottom of a swimming pool.

Despite being only 7 years old, Massiah Browne has been swimming for half of his life. Massiah was swimming with relatives at the pool in the apartment complex where he lives with his mom and brother when he spotted the 3-year-old boy.

Massiah said, “I was just playing in the pool and then I saw a boy at the bottom of the pool.” He claimed that the boy, who was not known to him that while beneath the water, he could see the child open eyes and mouth.

Massiah immediately dove into the water to retrieve the young youngster. In order to lift the young child to the pool deck, he drove down six feet.

A 9-year-old girl named Savannah who was a relative of Massiah’s assisted him in dragging the boy to the pool deck where adults arrived to offer assistance and begin lifesaving procedures.

“Savannah brought him to his mom and then they did CPR on the boy and then they called the doctor,” Massiah said.

“He wasn’t coming up,” Savannah shared as she recalled the scary incident.

The boy was then transported in critical condition with advanced life support supplied by Sacramento firefighters, according to a representative for the Sacramento Fire Department.

Tiara Delvalle, Massiah’s mother, hurried to the pool as soon as she heard about the tragedy. She’s in contact with the toddler’s mother, who reports that he is doing better and adds, “It’s a miracle.”

Male toddlers and teenage boys are in the greatest danger of drowning, based on the American Academy of Pediatrics. The CDC said drowning is the second most common cause of death for children under the age of 14 and the top cause of death for children between the ages of 1 and 4.

Thanks to Massiah and his courageous actions, that little boy was saved from drowning and got the necessary medical help that he needed.

The mother of the 3-year-old described the boy’s recovery as “a miracle” and expressed her sincere gratitude to Massiah and everyone else who helped save her child’s life.
