The “Dead to Me” star, who first broke through on Fox’s comedy “Married … With Children” in the late ’80s, turned to Twitter to share some sad news about her health.
Christina Applegate first revealed her Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis in August 2021 via a Tweet:
“Hi friends. A few months ago I was diagnosed with MS. It’s been a strange journey. But I have been so supported by people that I know who also have this condition,” Applegate wrote.
“It’s been a tough road. But as we all know, the road keeps going. Unless some a–hole blocks it.”
Following her initial tweet, Applegate — who shares 10-year-old daughter Sadie with husband Martyn LeNoble — asked for privacy as she focuses on her health.
“As one of my friends that has MS said ‘we wake up and take the indicated action’. And that’s what I do,” she wrote. “So now I ask for privacy. As I go through this thing. Thank you xo.”
The “Anchorman” star has fought many health battles, including beating breast cancer. Applegate underwent a double mastectomy in 2008 and also had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed in 2017 to avoid ovarian cancer.
“One of my family members has M.S. Hugs to you. Medications have come a long way in the past couple of decades, but there is always hope for a cure. You’ve shown us you are strong before. And there is a whole community supporting you. You’ve got this,” wrote Lisa A. Bryant.
Another Twitter user added, “I understand how you feel. Two years ago, I started losing my ability to walk & now I can barely play guitar.
On the same day, she made the announcement, one of Applegate’s fans wrote: “Goodness. Sending you all the love. I was lucky enough to see you in Sweet Charity. You were amazing. You are still amazing.”
Another Twitter user offered some words of encouragement, writing: “Damn! Well, let’s face it. You are a true inspiration. Just keep doing what you’re doing. Keep swinging. Keep ducking. You’re a fighter. We’re always rooting for you.”
Applegate celebrated her 50th birthday in November 2021. She tweeted,
“Yup. I turned 50 today. And I have MS. It’s been a hard one. Sending so much love to all of you this day. Many are hurting today, and I am thinking of you. May we find that strength to lift our heads up. Mine currently is on my pillow. But I try.”

The actress is most known for her role on Fox’s comedy Married…With Children. She has recently starred in the Netflix show Dead to Me. The show’s third season will be released on November 17, 2022.
