The House and Senate have revealed their plans to pack the highest court of the land from its typical 9 seats to now 14 seats.
“Congressional Democrats plan to unveil legislation expanding the size of the Supreme Court on Thursday, according to three congressional sources familiar with the closely held measure,” The Intercept reported.
“The bill would add four seats to the high court, bringing the total to 13, from the current 9,” the report continued.
“The bill is led by House Judiciary Committee Chair Jerry Nadler, Subcommittee chair Hank Johnson, and freshman Rep. Mondaire Jones,” The Intercept added. “In the Senate, the bill is being championed by Ed Markey of Massachusetts.”
Now, this shouldn’t come as a surprise since this is exactly what we all knew would occur if Joe Biden did get into office and well, here it is.
West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin and Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema have both stated their opposition to the court-packing, but that will most assuredly be met with fierce opposition in the Senate.
Now Nancy Pelosi is weighing in on the situation and her statement has brought a collective sigh of relief for at least a moment among conservatives.
On Thursday, Pelosi was asked if she supported the bill which was passed out of the House Judiciary Committee.
“No,” Pelosi said. “I have no plans to bring it to the floor.”
However, she did leave wiggle room for the issue to be discussed further through Biden’s SCOTUS “reform” commission.
“I support the president’s commission, to study such a proposal,” Pelosi said. “I don’t know that it is a good idea or a bad idea. I think it’s an idea that should be considered and I think the president is taking the right approach, to have a commission study such a thing. It’s a big step.”
The bill would add four SCOTUS justice seats, bringing the total to 13 justices. The House Judiciary Committee Chair Jerry Nadler, Subcommittee chair Hank Johnson and freshman Rep. Mondaire Jones co-sponsored the House bill. In the Senate, the bill is being sponsored by Sen. Ed Markey.
It appears that the Democratic Party is merely playing games with its radical base. If there was political support in the Congress for court-packing, Speaker Pelosi wouldn’t hesitate to bring it to the floor out of committee. Instead, Americans are going to be getting more “optics” on politically unpopular ideas, like court-packing and slavery reparations.
This is a developing story….
