Over 200 Inauguration Day demonstrators in Washington, D.C. have been indicted on felony rioting charges.
After five more individuals were indicted on rioting charges yesterday, the total number of people now charged with felony rioting has reached 214, CNN reports.
DC police originally arrested 217 individuals on Inauguration Day.
In reaction to the rioting, Mayor Muriel Bowser reportedly said, “We will not tolerate violence and vandalism and the destruction of our neighborhood.”
If convicted, each protester could face up to 10 years in jail.
The demonstrators tore through the city “black bloc” style, dressing up in all black and creating chaos, breaking windows and engaging in violence.

The rioters also attacked innocent people:

Rioters also torched a limousine, which turned out to be owned by a Muslim immigrant.
Many of the protests were organized by the group #DisruptJ20, and some planned violence from the beginning.
Violence and destruction of property was not random, in fact, it was the entire objective of the protest. One protester said, “I think there should have been more violence yesterday,” The Washington Post reports.
One organizer, Tom Faison, said the methods used were considered with “nuance and intention.”
