In June 2014, an 11-year-old boy visited Normandy, France to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the D-Day invasion during World War II. The boy was on his own personal mission titled “Project Vigil” in which he spent four days educating visitors about 3 special paratroopers who fought in the war and were buried in the American Cemetery. Since police wouldn’t allow the boy to enter the cemetery in his WWII uniform, he took the American flag down to Omaha Beach, planted it in the sand, and held a silent salute for 90 minutes.
