The victim who is 5 months pregnant, was ‘raped’ repeatedly
A 10-year-old girl was found to be five-months pregnant after being raped repeatedly, allegedly by her stepfather, the police said on Sunday.
National Commission for Women (NCW) steps in.
The girl’s pregnancy was confirmed by the doctors when her mother took her to a hospital, they said, adding that the accused had been arrested.
The police said that the accused, identified as Suresh, was arrested under Section 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the IPC and relevant section of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) 2012.
Meanwhile, the NCW chairperson Lalitha Kumaramangalam said the agency had taken suo motu cognisance of the case.
An NCW team is also likely to visit Rohtak on Monday to look into the matter.
The family, originally from Bihar, was residing at Durga Colony here, Rohtak DSP (City) Ramesh Kumar said.
‘Girl threatened’
The mother, in a complaint lodged with the police, alleged that the girl’s stepfather had been raping her for a long time and had threatened the girl with dire consequences if she dared to disclose it to anyone.
The girl was admitted to PGIMS, Rohtak, the police said, adding that they were probing the matter further.
Members of the district child welfare committee visited the girl at the PGIMS, where members Neelam Ahuja and Uma Nehra said arrangements would be made for counselling of the girl by an expert so that she can overcome the mental trauma. Uma Nehra said financial help as well as social security cover would be provided to the girl as well as her younger siblings.
Scumbags like this need to be strung up in prison. What he’s done to this 10 year old girl is unforgivable.
