A daddy blogger named Clint Edwards shared a photo of his daughter, Aspen, wearing a leash. To accompany the photo, he gave the most succinct explanation of why he uses the “backpack safety harness” that you’ll ever hear, short of “because I felt like it.”

An Oregon father created quite a buzz when he posted a picture online of his toddler wearing a leash.

Clint Edwards, 34, is the creator of No Idea What I’m Doing: A Daddy Blog. On May 27, he posted a photo to his blog’s Facebook page of his 3-year-old daughter, Aspen, wearing the leash while at a farmer’s market, reports ABC News.

On the blog post, he explained why he sometimes attaches the leash to Aspen:

“The real difficulty with having a wild child is that you are damned if you do, and damned if you don’t. Because the fact is, if I didn’t put Aspen on a leash while at amusement parks, the zoo, a crowded mall, or the farmers market, she’d be the lost child announced over the intercom. She’d be the kid popping up in every Facebook feed for wandering into a shopping center parking lot, unattended. She could be the child climbing into the tiger cage. Because I can’t, for the life of me, keep her from moving….. And sure, I get dirty looks from strangers. In fact, I’ll probably get some ‘I’m the perfect parent and this is why you suck’ comments on this post. And to you I say this, ‘I’m keeping this kid safe while maintaining my piece of mind, and that is 100% worth it.’ Because the reality is she’ll calm down. She’ll figure it out, because all kids do.”

More than 3,000 people commented on the post, and Edwards admitted he was surprised how many parents said that they can relate.

Although Edwards claims to “have no idea what I’m doing,” his blog has been publicized widely, including coverage in The New York Times, The Washington Post, “Good Morning America,” HuffPost, Fast Company and others.

“I say I have no idea what I’m doing because my father wasn’t around when I was a child,” he explains. “He left when I was nine, and he was in and out of jail until he died from drug addiction. He was 49. I was 19.”

The “About” section of his blog provides further elaboration:

“I still don’t have someone to turn to when it comes to fatherly questions, so I’m making this up as I go. And that’s what you will find here: me honestly trying to figure it out. You are going to read about my frustrations and my successes, and how I try to laugh whenever possible. You are going to meet my charming and spitfire wife, Mel, and our snarky, needy, wonderful, and frustrating three children. This is the most honest account of parenting you will find on the web. I hope you can learn something from my mistakes, and realize that being frustrated, confused, and exhilarated as a parent is normal.”
